History and innovation - in the heart of Maastricht

Walking through Maastricht's city centre, you'll see a striking mix of historic and modern architecture. Iconic buildings like the Basilica of Saint Servatius, Saint John's Church and the Saint Servatius Bridge are of course unmissable. In between, you will find monumental buildings from later periods, such as the baroque City Hall on the Market Square and the gothic Dinghuis. Over the years, the historic centre has developed without losing its character. Many old buildings were given new uses. The Dominican Church, now a bookshop, is a splendid example. There are also modern additions, such as the Mosae Forum and Entre Deux shopping centres. The transition from old to new is subtle, keeping the authentic cityscape in balance.
