Fotomuseum aan het Vrijthof is a private photography museum located in the centre of Maastricht.
Fotomuseum aan het Vrijthof is a private photography museum located in the centre of Maastricht. It receives no structural funding from the city of Maastricht, Province of Limburg or the national government. The photography museum is situated in the former Spanish Gouvernement, a building that served as Emperor Charles V's country palace as early as the 16th century.
In recent years, Fotomuseum aan het Vrijthof has been working on a new vision of the future with a clear choice for the multifaceted medium of photography. Twice a year, the Fotomuseum aims to present a big name from the world of photography with an attractive framing programme. The leitmotif of the exhibitions is social relevance. A new and fresh museum concept, a meeting place, with more room for experimentation and new crossovers within the cultural sector. A wide audience will be treated in an accessible way to high-profile experiences and exciting crossovers in an atmospheric setting, where visitors are welcomed with a soft g.
