Discover the centuries-old Minorite Monastery
The first stones of the Minorite Monastery were laid around 1300. Since then, the building has had many lives. It has successively served as a monastery, an orphanage and a military hospital, and has been home to the Limburg Historical Centre since 1881. All these different periods have left their mark on the building.
During the guided tour, you’ll discover the remarkable history of this place. You’ll walk through centuries-old corridors, admire the former monastery church – now an impressive reading room – and descend to the basement. There you’ll find the archive’s treasure trove, where you’ll be introduced to unique and remarkable archival documents.
Step inside a building where the past is still palpable everywhere. Discover how the monastery has continually adapted over the centuries, whilst retaining its historic character. Be surprised by the stories, the hidden spots and the centuries of history that come together here.
