Museums and galleries

From contemporary art to a museum dedicated entirely to photography. There are many museums in Maastricht, each with its own character. You will also find special art galleries throughout the city, often hidden behind monumental facades. With impressive exhibitions throughout the year, there is never a dull moment in Maastricht! Theatre - and film

A visit to the theatre always adds a special experience to your stay. Theatre, cabaret, dance... There really is something for everyone. From a proud theatre right on the Vrijthof to an excitingly secluded AINSI theatre in an industrial part of town. The Pesthuys Podium, right opposite the Helpoort is also worth a visit, and Maastricht offers several film houses. Lumière Cinema in the Sphinx Quarter shows art-house films and organises the Open Air Film Festival. Pathé Maastricht shows popular Hollywood films for all ages.

Maastricht is home to several cultural programmes, such as the academy of music, the theatre academy and the Maastricht Institute of Arts. This makes the city an important and vibrant centre for artists, culture makers and creative talent.
