Basilica Of Saint Servatius
This oldest basilica in the Netherlands has one of the richest treasure chambers in Europe.

Maastricht's largest square is home to the imposing and monumental Saint Servatius Basilica. The Basilica of Saint Servatius itself (Maastricht: Sintervaosbasiliek, or simply Sintervaos) is a church building in the historic centre of Maastricht, located between three squares: the Vrijthof, the Keizer Karelplein and the Henric van Veldekeplein. The church was built on the grave of Saint Servatius and is considered the oldest surviving church in the Netherlands. The large three-aisled cross basilica was built largely in Romanesque style using coal sandstone and marl. The church building serves as the parish church of the Roman Catholic Sint-Servaas parish and deanery church of Maastricht. Since 1985, the church has held the title basilica minor (basilica). The church, cloisters and treasury are open to the public and can be visited for a fee.
This oldest basilica in the Netherlands has one of the richest treasuries in Europe. The shrine of Saint Servatius, also called 'Reliquary', is displayed in the north transept. It is an important example of Meusean noble art. It houses part of the bones of Saint Servatius, the first bishop of the Netherlands. In addition, in the medieval double chapel, admire the church treasure with the famous Key of Saint Servatius, his bust and and many more relics and reliquaries, liturgical objects and textiles. You will be amazed!
