Maastricht Year
For one year in 2026, Maastricht will be all about connecting. During the Maastricht Year, we will bring people together by looking back at the rich history of our city. Stories, traditions and special moments from the past form the basis for new encounters and collaborations in the present.
" Built by history. Connected by people. "
Together Maastricht: One city, many stories
Maastricht is a city of many faces. Some inhabitants have lived here for generations, others have only recently called the city home. Students, expats, young families, refugees and native Maastrichtians: everyone is part of the same story. The Maastricht Year invites all these people to meet, learn from each other and make new memories together.
Maastricht through the years: - from past to present
Programming
Throughout the year, the city hosts activities and events in which the past comes to life again. Not to look back out of nostalgia, but to discover what connects us, then and now. This is how we build a city together in which solidarity, understanding and pride are central.
City programming
Petit Paris
The Jeker Quarter transforms into Maastricht's vibrant Latin Quarter for a weekend in June. Petit Paris brings together history, culture and local community in a festive programme full of music, theatre and art.
Dancing (back) in the Park
A festive dance weekend in the Stadspark (city park) connects generations and cultures through workshops, free dance moments and joint dance acts. Thus, this project brings the park's past to life and stimulates social cohesion.
BeatClub Re:Mix
Young people create their own modern Beat Club, inspired by the historic dance ban lifted in 1966. Through dance, music and performance, the project connects history with contemporary culture and diverse generations.
Music colours Maastricht
Philzuid brings classical music into the city and lets young and old, newcomers and regular residents listen, learn and perform together. The programme combines education, community activities and great performances for a connecting musical experience.
The Pieke Parcours
A city-wide trail celebrates the work of puppeteer Pieke Dassen with theatre performances, workshops and interactive exhibitions. In this way, the project connects art, heritage and people of all ages.
TexTiles
Hundreds of residents create a large textile carpet together on Plein 1992, as a colourful symbol of connection and joint creation. Workshops, participation and a BlockParty allow Maastricht to literally and figuratively come together.
Preuve vaan Toen
Together with various partners, the Muziekgieterij Maasticht Foundation emphasises Maastricht's rich, layered history, which is not only visible in buildings and dialect, but also tastable in its cuisine. Residents are invited to share their family recipes and stories during a tasting afternoon.
