24 March 1942, the first works of art arrive in the Caves North, including the Night Watch will be kept here during World War II.

Preserving works of art was important to the Nazi regime. With the approval of the occupying forces, State Repository No 9 was built in Mount Saint Peter (Mount Saint Peter). Consequently, on 24 March 1942, the first of a total of 780 works of art arrived, packed in large crates and transported in closed trucks. These works including, Rembrandt's Night Watch, Potter's Bull and Vermeer's Little Street were stored here until the end of the war. How is that possible in a cave with 98% humidity.
This vault is still completely intact. You will experience these and other extraordinary stories during this North Vault tour.

The Grotten Noord, structural but carved into the marl by block breakers, harbours a special piece of history. This tour deals mainly with the period of the Second World War. You will also visit the National Depository No.9, the Vault. Some 780 works of art were kept here during World War II, including Rembrandt's Night Watch.
