Visit the Derlon Museum Cellar
8 November, 15 November and 6 more days
The Museumkelder Derlon is a small archaeological museum surrounding an important excavation, a national monument, from the Roman period.
In the 1980s, approximately 6 metres below the current street level, a pre-Roman road, the remains of a Roman sanctuary and parts of a late-Roman castellum were excavated. Among other things, you can see a cobbled path, a well, and a walled flowerbed containing part of the plinth of the original Jupiter pillar – which stood approximately 9 metres tall – featuring a statue of the god Jupiter.
Every Sunday, a guide from Explore Maastricht is present to enrich your visit with information. Exhibition is free to visit between 12.00 and 16.00.
