True to local tradition, on Carnevalszondag (Carnival Sunday), the Groeten Optoch (the Big Parade) will make its way through the streets of Maastricht. During the parade, also known as the Boonte Störrem, a large assortment of people in costume as well as beautiful floats will make their way through the city. The Garderizzjemint de Kachelpiepers (regimental guard band) and the Prince's Float will lead this impressive parade.

Route: Wycker Brugstraat, St Servatius Bridge, Kesselskade, Hoenderstraat, Markt square, Grote Gracht, Helmstraat, Vrijthof square, to arrive at Keizer Karelplein square. The Prince of the City will take the salute in front of Theater aan het Vrijthof.

PRINSELEKE VEENDEL 
On Carnevalszondag (Carnival Sunday) at 10:33 AM the Prinseleke Veendel (the princely banner) will be raised at the home of the Carnival Prince of the City and at 12:11 PM, true to local tradition, eleven shots will be fired from the Monus cannon on Vrijthof square to mark the start of Carnival. According to tradition, the Mooswief (a massive papier mâché vegetable woman) will then be brought from Sint Pieter district to Vrijthof square under the musical accompaniment of the Sint Pieter brass band. On Vrijthof square, the Mooswief will be raised up in the air by the Prince of the City.
