Maastricht is the perfect city for shopping. The shops are open seven days a week with extended opening hours on Thursdays and have regular sales where you can benefit from massive discounts.
Sales in Maastricht are not planned for any particular period. In contrast with Belgium and Germany, sales in the Netherlands don't have a fixed start and end date. If you want to be sure when your favourite shop is holding its next sale, the best thing to do is call the shop and speak to an employee there.
In the interest of public safety, the Dutch government is taking some extra precautionary measures to combat the spreading of the coronavirus. All restaurants, pubs, cafés and other catering facilities will be closing their doors up to and including Tuesday 19 May, as well as all museums, concert halls and theatres. All events that are due to take place from now until 1 September 2020 will be cancelled. Not all shops will be open. If you want to know exactly when shops are open, call the shop you want to visit in advance. You can find the opening hours here.
