In what is expected to be one of the most influential elections of 2024, the Maastricht Debate will focus on themes that are important to young voters. Leaders of European political parties will debate each other and answer questions from young people.

The Maastricht Debate is an initiative of Maastricht University and will take place in the center of Maastricht, where the European Union was founded with the signing of the Maastricht Treaty in 1992.

For those who were unable to get a seat at the Theater aan het Vrijthof, or for those who want to be informed about the European elections in a light-hearted way, Studio Europa Maastricht is offering a free election festival. On the Vrijthof Square, visitors can watch this crucial debate on a big screen. Moreover, we have planned an exciting and inspiring programme both before and after the debate. Programme
Immerse yourself in European democracy during our election festival! Get ready for a dynamic programme with highlights such as a theatre show by The Electors, the premiere of the documentary "Europe I See You", and an interactive election quiz by Vote for a Woman. Take a stroll along Boulevard Europa between performances, discover more at informative stands, and take a look at the Cartoon Cube where renowned cartoonists draw live cartoons. Enjoy the rousing sounds of the BomBRASStic brass band and DJ Eclectic Eddy, who will liven up the festival with Euro hits and other classics.
