Buitengoed Slavante country estate
You can find this former casino on the other side of Maastricht, towards Visé (Belgium). Get there on foot (it's a blissful walk from Stadspark), by bike (just a heartbeat away), by car (easily accessible), and even by boat (the Stiphout tour boat passes right by). Buitengoed Slavante lies on the slope of the Zonneberg hill on the side of the river Meuse. Outside is the best side. Go to Slavante.

Looking out from the terrace, you'll see the creative and wonderful Landbouwbelang to your left, where artists live off the grid. You can watch incredible movies at Lumière, which are matched by the stunning interior. Go to Lumière.

NOON Maastricht
Along the river Meuse in Wyck, you'll find NOON. It's the perfect afternoon escape! But maybe you just want to stay a little longer to enjoy that beautiful sunset... Oh, by the way, they also serve delicious food and drinks. Go to NOON Maastricht.

CINQ
If you find yourself at the coolest spot on the river Meuse – in bustling Wyck – you have definitely come to CINQ. Go here for a healthy bite to eat, a coffee with vlaai (sweet tart), or a luxurious lunch! We bet you can sit here for hours watching people and boats go by. Go to CINQ.

Brandsøn
Directly opposite CINQ – you'll need to cross the St Servatius bridge first – you'll see Brandsøn to your left. It's a trendy new bar / eatery in Maastricht. Their logo is the formerly local Mosasaurus (dinosaur) – this alone places Brandsøn high up on our bar and restaurant terrace list. They have a chic menu and a fantastic view over the river Meuse. Go to Brandsøn.

Riverside Lounge
An extraordinarily beautiful place directly on the river Meuse with a view of the Ridder Brewery opposite (in Wyck), and passing boats that offer an ever-changing backdrop. Some of the prettiest city squares in the country. - Or at least in Maastricht!

The squares of Maastricht... We are proud of our city squares! We stroll across them, organize the most beautiful concerts on them, and every week we place our market stalls on their pavement. Markt, Vrijthof, Onze Lieve Vrouweplein: the one prettier than the other. At a bar and restaurant terrace along one of these squares, you can people-watch for hours, enjoy a freshly pulled beer, or have lunch...

Markt
On Wednesdays and Fridays, a local market is held here complete with fish stalls, fruit and vegetable stalls, the finest fabrics, and local delicacies. We even won a prize for it once. Of course, the surrounding bar and restaurant terraces are also worth a visit: they add to the square's charm. At Café Local, you look out at the imposing City Hall (Stadhuis) as you sip on the most luxurious coffee in Maastricht and enjoy an extensive menu. Café-Brasserie Capital is another and newer force to be reckoned with. You'll feel like a king sitting at this sunny terrace on Markt. A little further on, you'll come across De Gouverneur and their excellent range of craft beers.

Onze Lieve Vrouweplein
Onze Lieve Vrouweplein is one of the prettiest squares in the centre of Maastricht. The square is in the oldest part of the city within the late Roman castellum. The square is known for its charm and its many, many bar and restaurant terraces. These include (but are not limited to) establishments like Van de Kaart, De Comedie, De Lanteern, and Le Virage around the corner. Hotel Derlon sits proudly in-between with their own beautiful terrace. Discover Onze Lieve Vrouweplein.

Vrijthof
This is possibly the most famous square in the Netherlands! It's known for André Rieu's romantic summer concerts, the Preuvenemint at the end of August, and the spellbinding Magical Maastricht in December. Theater aan het Vrijthof, the Fotomuseum (Museum of photography), and the numerous bar and restaurant terraces contribute to this square's popularity. Bar and restaurant terraces along Vrijthof include Monopole, Nieuw Bruin, Britannique, and the oldest café in the Netherlands, De Vogelstruys. Go to Vrijthof.

What's that rustling in the bushes? - That's the bustle of bar and restaurant terraces surrounded by greenery

Café Sjiek
Sjiek's terrace in Faliezusterspark is a special bit of Stadspark. Pro tip: de Beleefwandeling (the Experience Walk) is a great way to discover more about the area in Dutch. Here you'll see characteristic houses with red and white shutters, the quaint Jeker river, and centuries-old willows. Sjiek has many items on their menu including the famous 'zuurvlees’ (sweet-and-sour meat stew), but the atmosphere is what makes this terrace especially memorable! Go to Café Sjiek.

Marres Kitchen
Marres, House for Contemporary Culture houses a unique kitchen as well. Walk through the gate on Capucijnenstraat and you will find yourself in a (kind of) secret garden. This spot couldn't be more romantic even if it tried. Marres has a unique Mediterranean menu. Go to Marres Kitchen.
