In Maastricht, we don't really believe in hypes. We simply don't need that. Entrepreneurs in the city are ambitious, but don't rush anything. They like to take the time to work out their cool and often creative concepts in detail. This results in authentic offerings, from culinary to retail. Because we certainly don't want you to lose sight of the forest for the trees, we are happy to share the city's newest additions with you. These are the newest 'kids' in town!
Bar Beurre
Let's face it, everything is tastier with butter. Well 'gooj boter', as we call it in Maastricht. Speaking of which, the Maastricht culinary landscape has gained a member: Bar Beurre. Robin & Jesper are two young talents who joined forces. They hadn't fully sketched out the concept, but they knew that Bar Beurre had to be a place where you go out to eat as if you were visiting friends. "That would be chill, right?" said the new owners of the premises on Sint Pieterstraat. Anything but chill, Bar Beurre is just that. Chef's favourite dishes? The langoustine with sourdough brioche and bisque and, for dessert, pistachio ice cream with tarragon anglaise.

MADAQ
Chocolate lovers take note: at MADAQ, they are giving new meaning to the chocolate experience. Founder Soufiane Mourabit doesn't just sell chocolate. No, he offers 12 unique flavour combinations. "Carefully selected ingredients that create unparalleled flavours, each with its own story," says the ambitious Soufiane. All products are handmade in MADAQ's own Atelier in Velp. By the way, MADAQ means 'flavour' in Berber, which immediately betrays Soufiane's origins. He also owes his special sense of taste to that, something we can become jealous of. Visit MADAQ especially if you want to be properly surprised. Tips from the owner? Try the almond milk hot chocolate with an almond-argan oil bonbon. The Moroccan coffee bonbon is also highly recommended, and it’s available in a vegan version too!

The Matcha Society
You may already know Asrin from her insanely delicious Luxury Date chocolates.... The ambitious lady couldn't sit still and was ready to share her love for Matcha with Maastricht. Match-what: Matcha is 100% Japanese green tea made in a traditional way and has numerous health benefits. "The Japanese philosophies and rituals about slowing down and connecting and the way this is integrated into the lives of the Japanese appeals to me greatly. The way Japanese Matcha tea is traditionally made is for me a true art and ritual which I have integrated into my lifestyle." says Asris, who starts beaming when she talks about her matcha concept.
Last October, she walked down Maastricht's Nieuwstraat and was hugely inspired by the building at number 26. A beautiful Maastricht monumental building that has been renovated very nicely and modernly with respect for the old. Visit The Matcha Society if, like us, you want to be inspired by her story.
