Activities & events

De Brandweerkantine

As the name gives it away, the fire brigade used to be housed here. You can still see this in the large windows that served as gates for the fire engines. That makes a special place of De Brandweerkantine, a nice industrial and raw character. Made homely by vintage furniture and lots of greenery. Another nice thing about this spatial arrangement is the fact that you can settle down here nicely with children. As we look around, we see a few children creating their own reading nook, a beautiful image. De Brandweerkantine 's menu - like at its sister Café Zondag in Wyck - is varied with a lot of focus on fresh and vegetable dishes. Drinks are surprising and fizzy.

Lumière - Cinema

A few years ago, there was nothing to do in the Sphinx Quarter. In fact, it was a dark and quiet corner next to the centre of Maastricht that was better not to walk through. Now when you walk through the innovative and creative Sphinx Quarter, you can hardly believe it. Trendy hotels, a fancy furniture store and several restaurants and cafés. You'll also find Lumière Cinema, a beautiful film house located on Maastricht's marina (the Bassin). Here they run the current art-house offerings, but also offer fun children's programmes. The nice thing is, it comes with a fantastic brasserie, with a lovely terrace during sunny times. Kids proof: yes!

Natural History Museum

Of course, it's not all about having a long lunch. Education and culture need to be considered too! We would like to introduce you to the Natural History Museum. In the heart of the city centre, you will learn everything about nature, past and present. Dinofans can also have a great time here, as there is a lot to learn about this era. Throughout the year, different themes are presented with appropriate fringe programming. This ensures a varied offer for young and old!

Pancake cruise - Rederij Stiphout

This activity is even more fun than it sounds! During this 2-hour trip by Rederij Stiphout you will decorate pancakes, as delicious as you like. While you garnish the fresh pancakes with fresh fruit or other goodies, you will admire the city from the river Meuse. A super fun boat trip for the whole family. Just when your tummy is full, you will moor back at the Kesselskade and you can continue exploring the city.

De Mergelhoof adventure playground

A true gem in terms of playgrounds. In fact, this playground is located against Mount St Peter. Which puts you in a valley of greenery and fun. With the beautiful marl walls on one side and an insanely adventurous forest on the other, where the kids can climb endlessly. There are also several pieces of playground equipment and there is even a pool for water fun in summer. Of course, you can also order all kinds of drinks, ice cream and poffertjes. Highly recommended!

Museum of Illusions

Also fun for the whole family: dive into the world of illusions together at the Museum of Illusions. Nothing is what it seems in this museum and that is what makes it so much fun. This is not a classic museum where you just look at things. You are meant to actively participate in the illusions yourself, which is why the museum is so suitable for both children and adults. Be amazed by optical illusions and put your senses to the test. Hours of fun guaranteed!
