Warm activities in Maastricht's winter

During the (ice) cold days, the obvious thing to do is go ice skating, or get some fresh air on a winter walk. But what to do when you just feel like warmth? We would like to bring you some heartwarming ideas.

Relaxing in the sauna

Yes, during the freezing cold days, this is a top idea. Luckily, Maastricht and its surroundings lend themselves perfectly to a day of wellness. Besides, the cold outside comes in handy when you want to 'shock' the body after the sauna. Forget the plunge pool, just take a quick walk outside. Thermen Maastricht is located on the water in Dormio Resort. Guests not staying at the resort can also book a sauna day here. A wellness classic and well known in South Limburg is of course Thermae 2000, located - near Maastricht - in Valkenburg. Here you can bathe in thermal water overlooking the Limburg hills. Oh yes, don't forget to book a massage for yourself or for two!

Warm up with coffee and a book

Boekhandel Dominicanen is not often mentioned in lists of the most beautiful bookshops in the world for nothing. The former Dominican church now houses a beautiful bookshop, where you can also settle down for a coffee at Coffeelovers. A tip from us? Buy a nice book, order a coffee and cake and go for an hour of me-time. Look around every now and then and enjoy this insanely rare view. It really is beautiful!

Creative with glass

It is a profession in its own right; glazier. Stained glass is such a specific way of working with glass, as far as we are concerned it is pure art. Would you like to experience what it is like to create such a colourful work of glass art yourself? Then you are in luck, because you can attend a stained-glass making workshop at the Glazery! This workshop covers one half-day session and is perfect during the bleak and dark days. You will take away your own stained glass artwork at the end of the workshop. When the sun starts shining again, you can enjoy your own creation at home! Tip: The workshops fill up quickly. If you come with a group, book well in advance.

To the movies!

Another winter tip: visit one of Maastricht's cinemas. During a romantic film or an exciting sci-fi, you dream away for a while. Warm and cosy in a dark room, you can escape the inclement weather outside. The popular offer can be found at Pathé. Of course, do not forget to take a bowl of fresh popcorn into the auditorium. Right opposite is Lumière Cinema, with an arthouse offering and special children's films. The latter place is also a perfect location for a cosy lunch or dinner overlooking the marina. Both cinemas are located in the Sphinx Quarter.

Paint a cup

Another creative tip in Maastricht. On Mariastraat, you can paint your own ceramics. Not only fun because you can take the cup home with you afterwards, but also because you can completely unwind during such a creative workshop. At Kleur het Kopje, you will discover your artistic side in the cosy workshop. It is fun to do all by yourself, or bring your best friends or colleagues. Something completely different and still nice in Maastricht!

Strike!

During cold winter days, you naturally only really get warm with some physical exertion. So how nice is it - in the heart of Maastricht - to combine the pleasurable with the practical (getting warm)? A visit to entertainment centre Olround is highly recommended. A game of bowling with your family or friends equals an afternoon of fun anyway. Of course, some exercise makes you hungry... In that case, you can enjoy a nice stone grill on the first floor. Another hot activity ;-)
