On the eastern flank of the St. Pietersberg hill (overlooking the Meuse), lies a very special and valuable point of interest: the Lichtenberg Castle ruins.  It is undoubtedly the oldest castle ruin in the Netherlands, with foundations dating from the 10th century.  The more built-up sections date from the 12th and 15th century and are made from sandstone and marl respectively. From the top, visitors have a breathtaking view of the Meuse Valley.  - Opening hours:  29 April till 4 November every sunday from 12 PM till 4.30 PM Entrance fee: Voluntary donation
