Don't miss these neighbourhoods when you visit Maastricht: Wyck and Céramique. Although they are located next to each other, they differ greatly in character. During this walk, you will experience the unique atmosphere of both: from the charming and cosy Wyck, you walk effortlessly into the modern, architecturally fascinating Céramique.
Starting point: Maastricht railway station
Start your walk at the railway station and walk down Stationsstraat. Here are stately houses from the late nineteenth century, reflecting the rich history of this district.
Cross Wilhelminasingel and admire the Maria monument. Around the pedestal of this monument are statues of four famous Maastricht bishops. Walk further to Wycker Brugstraat, where you can shop to your heart's content and find many cosy restaurants.

Historical highlights
At Rechtstraat, turn right towards St Martin's Church. Then walk into Wycker Pastoorstraat and turn left at the river Meuse. Here you pass the former De Ridder Brewery, where the famous white beer Wieckse Witte was brewed until 2002.
The Sint-Servaasbrug, which you are now approaching, is the oldest bridge in the Netherlands and dates from the year 1280. Cross Wycker Brugstraat and continue your route via Wycker Smedenstraat. Then turn right into Rechtstraat, the main street of the Wyck district, with beautiful buildings from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Also note the many beautiful gable stones.

From Ceramics to Art
Via the Ruiterij and past the Crowne Plaza Maastricht hotel, you reach Plein 1992. This square commemorates the Maastricht Treaty, which was signed in 1992 and laid the foundation for the introduction of the euro. This was the site of the Société Céramique pottery factory until around 1980. One of the remaining factory buildings, the Bordenhal, now houses Toneelgroep Maastricht.

Walk behind star restaurant Beluga Loves You to the river Meuse, where you can still see remnants of the old fortifications. Follow the route along the river to the Bonnefanten. Before the museum, turn left and pass the Wiebenga Hall, the second remaining factory building of Société Céramique. Walk around the building and continue via Avenue Céramique back to Plein 1992. Many street names in this area refer to Maastricht 's industrial past.

Back to Wyck
From Plein 1992, walk past Centre Céramique - home to the city library and the Maastricht Museum Museum, among others - to the Hoge Barakken. Via a subway, you enter Hoogbrugstraat, one of Wyck's many lively streets. Cross the street and walk through the gate onto Bourgogneplein. Turn left and take the passage to Wycker Grachtstraat.
At number 26 you will see the imposing mouth house of the still fully intact Bosch Brewery. At the end of the street you re-enter Wycker Brugstraat. From here, you can walk back to the station on the right or cross the Sint-Servaas bridge to the city centre on the left.
