10x taste autumn in Maastricht

With the transition to a new season, we are treated to all kinds of goodies. Because with the falling of the leaves, Maastricht's culinary entrepreneurs conjure up the most beautiful new seasonal dishes. We list 10 tips for you!

Café Local

On one of the most beautiful (and sunny) corners of the Markt, you'll find Café Local. This Maastricht café offers you the best view of the Town Hall and the bustling weekly markets. What's so great about Local is that they give a fresh twist to Maastricht's best local dish: Limburg-style sweet and sour beef stew. They have in fact made a vegetarian version of this. Something that makes us very happy! Warm up at Café Local after a fresh city walk... Enjoy!

Café Falstaff

You can also explore the city in the (early) evening hours in Maastricht style. After all, our region has quite a few breweries. At Café Falstaff, they are masters at tapping local beer. Located on the lively Amorsplein, there is never a dull moment at Falstaff. Do you go for a fresh pint or an autumn or winter specialty beer? With more than 70 craft beers, there really is something for everyone, but they are happy to advise you! A (heart)warming drink this autumn? You’ll find it at Falstaff.

Bistro Croquant

The homemade croquettes make Bistro Croquant a well-known bistro by now. Combined with the small (regional) dishes, you can definitely enjoy a local dinner here too. This French-inspired cuisine at Bistro Croquant can be found around the corner from Looiersplein and Tafelstraat, one of the most beautiful parts of Maastricht. Our favourite: the mushroom croquettes!

Au Mouton Blanc

Although this typical Maastricht café in the city centre is a great place to dance the night away, many people forget that you can also enjoy lunch and dinner here. As far as we are concerned, try the Liege meatballs, a typical autumnal dish! The Walloon city, which is less than 30 minutes from Maastricht, has a significant influence on our local cuisine. Delicious, served with a generous portion of fries and mayonnaise!

De Kaasbar

"In the Kiesbar gewees, um kieskes te koupe", sings Maastricht chansonneur John Tana. In reality, you cannot buy cheeses at De Kaasbar, but you can definitely taste them here! In this brown pub located on the fantastic Koestraat, you can truly indulge. Whether you go for a cheeseboard or their famous grilled onion soup, chances are you'll be dancing the night away at the bar with all your fellow burgundians!

Pieke Potloed

The name says it all: this is where you can truly experience Maastricht. Located in a cosy side street of the busy Grote Staat shopping street, you will find Pieke Potloed. Here, typical local dishes proudly adorn the menu. Our favourite combination? Fried black pudding with apple and a locally brewed craft beer. This will be the highlight of your autumn in Maastricht!
