This is what the programme looked like
On 27 April 2022, King Willem-Alexander and his family visited Maastricht on the occasion of Koningsdag. The day began at 11:00 am on the Sint Servaasbrug, where the royal family was welcomed with an impressive musical procession of local brass bands. The party then walked past the statue of the Mestreechter Geis and was introduced to South Limburg life, from traditions such as carnival to innovative projects such as the Limburg Bike.
On the Graanmarkt, a tribute to 30 years of the European Union and Maastricht's international student life took centre stage, with a musical spectacle by Philharmonie Zuidnederland and DJ duo Lucas & Steve. Afterwards, the royal family visited Onze Lieve Vrouweplein for an interactive tasting in Mestreechs dialect, followed by a Burgundian experience for young and old, including cooking, tasting, wine-making and getting to know Mosa Meat's growing burgers.
Maastricht's cultural life and association life were in the spotlight: theatre, "Vastelaovend meets Fashion", Opera Zuid and a gallery of honour of local associations gave a lively picture of the city. The programme ended on Vrijthof, where thousands of visitors sang the Wilhelmus and enjoyed performances, including a special song by Rowwen Hèze. After the closing words, the royal family was waved goodbye with a festive and Limburgish farewell song.
