Day of the Flan
On 25 October, the flag is flying, because that is when we celebrate the Day of Flan. The local bakers in Maastricht celebrate on this day and of course you can take this opportunity to enjoy a tasty piece of flan.
Tasty - regional product
Vlaai (in Maastricht we say 'vlaoj') is a regional product that we are very proud of in Limburg. So proud, in fact, that we created the Day of the Vlaai in 2017. After all, such a beautiful traditional product deserves its own day. Since then, we celebrate this special day every year in the Maastricht Store and the rest of the city. The content of the Day of the Flan varies every year.

The Maastricht flan
In honour of the 'Day of the Flan', Janneke Philippi, culinary author and cookbook author, has developed the Maastricht flan in collaboration with the Maastricht Store! An exclusive recipe with local ingredients.
With this recipe, Janneke Philippi shows how Limburg vlaai can keep innovating without losing its authentic base. The vlaai is prepared with apples and almonds from the region, two flavours that reinforce each other and underline the connections with the local community.
