Relaxation in and around Maastricht
You need a long break, or your working day or week is over - close your laptop and head for some fresh air. In and around Maastricht, there are many ways to switch off. Even if you are staying here temporarily, for a work station for example. Approachable or adventurous, everything is possible.
Hire a bicycle
By bike, you can discover the surroundings quickly and consciously. Moreover, you are in motion, win-win! There are blue shared bicycles at various places in the city and at the central station you can rent an (electric) public transport bike with your ov-chip card.
Cycle along the river Meuse towards the picturesque village of Eijsden or discover the Maastricht vineyards on your way to Château Neercanne on the border with Belgium. Of course, you can settle down for a culinary stop at these places. Or just take the bike from a to b more often, instead of public transport or the car. Small changes in your daily routine can make a big difference. Cycle yourself energised and happy!

Sports
Running
Do you prefer to keep fit during a more intense exercise session? Then go for a running route through the city. For example, opt for the strolling path at the Groene Loper. For a distance of seven kilometres, start at the Geusselt Stadium. Then take an alternative route to get to the Geusseltpark. Of course, you can also cross the city centre or follow the water. Plenty of variety, views and training at your fingertips.
Bootcamp
Boot camp sessions are also held regularly in the city park. Here, you combine several exercises with a group led by a motivating coach. Ideal for making new contacts and top for your health. Before or after this achievement, treat yourself to a cup of coffee or tea at one of these hotspots.
Yoga
A very different way to exercise and relax is yoga. You can take a (online) class on your own or do your favourite exercises in the city park, the Geusseltpark or the Hoge Frontenpark. But of course there are also plenty of groups to join. Even if the weather is bad, you can count on a nice view. For that, join a class at the Bassin yoga school.

Walking
A (short) walk has been proven to create space in your head. And it doesn't have to be boring at all. How about a trip to that new lunch spot, a walking date with a friend and/or beautiful surroundings with a holiday feel? With this five-km walk across Mount Saint Peter, you'll come across all sorts of surprising sights.
Cross the border
Maastricht borders both Germany and Belgium. How fun is it to visit a city in another country? A mini holiday, as it were.
With the Drieland train, you can be in Liège in just 35 minutes. From the station, you can cross the water by shuttle boat or take a shared-step to the city centre. For current timetables and fares, check the Maastricht Bereikbaar website. In the city, visit, for example, the 'Montagne de Bueren', a street 260 metres long and following 374 steps that lead to stunning views. Plus, there's plenty of shopping, and tasting. Don't forget to score a Liège waffle! Note: the language of communication here is French.
If you take the Drieland train in the other direction, you'll get off in the German city of Aachen. Here you'll find a historic centre including beautiful sights like the Dom, with an impressive mosaic decor on the inside. But also luxury specialty shops, traditional bakeries and cosy restaurants. Another completely different atmosphere, but at least as cosy.
