Poppelmondedal
A special piece of nature. In this 'dry valley', the soil in the upper part is poor, which means that you find mostly herbs here and little grass.

The Zandhoek is also called Poppelmondedal, this is the so-called 'dry valley', the soil here in the upper part is poor, which makes that you find mostly herbs and little grass here. In the section below, it is more calcareous, which means that (very) rare plants such as lime-trip grow here. But orchids, groundsel, wild marjoram and stone thyme can also be found here. A nice bonus is that these plants and herbs attract many different species of butterflies. You might just see the Spanish Flag, Queen's swallowtail and cockchafer Aurelia flutter by here.
