The name 'Kiekoet' (lookout in Limburgian) says it all: you just have to stop here and feast your eyes. This is the viewpoint over the Oehoe Valley. Home to Europe's largest owl, the eagle owl can grow up to 75 centimetres and is hugely impressive and imposing with a wingspan of up to 1.80 metres. A happy pair of eagle owls have already had their nest here since 1998. The eagle owl always looks for quiet nesting sites with as few people around as possible, plenty of food in the area and a steep wall to nest in. The territory of the eagle owl extends beyond this valley because at night this owl also hunts for pigeons and rats in the streets of Maastricht.
