The ENCI quarry is a wonderful place to walk and enjoy all the beautiful plants and animals the area has to offer.

ENCI Maastricht, ENCI's oldest production site, was founded in 1926 and is located along the river Maas, at the foot of the Sint-Pietersberg (St. Pietersberg hill). Until 2018, the ENCI quarry in Sint-Pietersberg (St. Pietersberg hill) entire cement production process: the extraction of limestone in opencast, the production of the semi-finished clinker, and finally the grinding of this clinker into cement. The ENCI quarry was a large 150-hectare limestone quarry, which was closed for marl extraction on 1 July 2018.
2019 saw the definitive end of the production of clinker, the semi-finished product for cement preparation. Since then, ENCI Maastricht has been importing clinker for subsequent grinding into various cements. ENCI Maastricht's annual production capacity is around 900,000 tonnes of cement per year. ENCI Maastricht is equipped with a fully automated truck loading plant and a bagging plant for packaged cement. Since 2010, ENCI Maastricht has been implementing a Transformation Plan for the ENCI area together with the Municipality of Maastricht, Province of Limburg and in close cooperation with Natuurmonumenten and the surrounding area. This plan focuses on the destination and layout of the limestone quarry, the current and future industrial estate and the transition zone in between. The finalisation of the quarry is currently in its completion phase.
The ENCI quarry is the ideal place for a nice walk. A brand new walking path was inaugurated in 2017. Via the viewing platform on Luikerweg, it is possible to descend the quarry. The footpath then passes through an old section of corridor system and continues its way through the chalk grasslands and the pond to the other side of the quarry.
