UM's administrative building is housed in the former Second Minderbroeders' Convent, which dates back to 1699. When the university moved into the building in 1999, the monastery complex already had a long history behind it. During the French era, the Friars Minor had to leave the monastery. After this, it served as a workhouse for the poor, a prison, a courthouse and finally as a military barracks. When it was converted into an administrative building, the complex's complex layered building history remained legible. The original spatial functioning of the monastery complex was restored. The mezzanine floor was largely demolished, but an atrium with offices on both sides was added. The monastery courtyard regained its original size after the demolition of a cell block. Where once was the church choir, and where once the military police stayed with their horses, is now the university's auditorium. With modern stained-glass windows, the building also features a brilliant art application.
