The poetry of craftsmanship
With words and images, Van den Berg explores the interfaces between language and form, the everyday and the sublime. As a poet, visual artist and bronze caster, he works at the intersection of poetry, sculpture and craftsmanship. His monumental bronze works, created in collaboration with Vroenhoven-based bronze foundry Art & Craft, are a raw search for stillness - they tell of city matrons, love, braided simplicity, comfort and fighting spirit.

The creative process
Using wax models, moulds, (documentary) film and photography, the exhibition offers a unique insight into the artist's craftsmanship. Van den Berg places the centuries-old practice of bronze casting within the industrial history of the city of Maastricht. The result is a multi-layered story, deeply rooted in Maastricht's heritage and surprisingly topical at the same time.

Sculptures that tell the story of the city
Maastricht residents know Van den Berg's poetic sculptures mostly from the city - they adorn squares, bridges, places of worship, schools and cafés. Now they are on show for the first time at Bureau Europa, as part of the ongoing exhibition series on material and craftsmanship, which previously focused on zinc and glass. As a platform for architecture and design, Bureau Europa explores how material, craftsmanship and imagination come together in the built and experienced environment.
