Faliezusterspark

Faliezusterspark is a peaceful part of the Stadspark, on the edge of the Jeker Quarter. Amongst the trees stand buildings and remnants of the city wall that serve as a reminder of Maastricht as it was centuries ago. The park’s name, too, harks back to that era.

Named after the Fali Sisters
From 1470 onwards, a religious community of Sisters of the Falie lived next to what is now the park. Their name derived from the ‘falie’, the black veil worn by the sisters.

The former Convent of the Sisters of the Falia still stands there today. The building is now used as a residence, but serves as a reminder of the sisters who lived here for centuries.

Along the old city wall
The Pater Vinck Tower also stands in the park. The tower formed part of Maastricht’s second medieval city wall. Sections of that old defensive wall are still visible amongst the greenery.

The monastery, the tower and the city wall are all situated close together here. As a result, various traces of medieval Maastricht can be seen within a small section of the park.

A green part of the Stadspark
Mature trees, grass and footpaths now characterise the Faliezusterspark. The old buildings and walls simply stand amidst the greenery.

This also highlights how this place has changed. The city wall lost its defensive function and the Falie Sisters left the convent, but both are still part of the park that stands here today.
