Between feeling and reality
Bitches Brew brings together three artists who do not depict reality literally, but distort it to make feelings visible. Keetje Mans, Tanja Ritterbex and Aline Thomassen all work within figurative painting, each with their own visual language. Their works show recognisable scenes and bodies, but always with an alienating twist: domestic environments where something is chafing, female bodies merging with natural forms and colourful scenes where chaos and humour meet. This creates painting that balances between dream and reality.

Personal stories on canvas
The exhibition is also about being completely yourself in your work. The artists start from their own lives and feelings, such as womanhood, motherhood, memories and expectations. Even before they can explain their work, the feelings have already been captured in paint. This makes the paintings raw, honest and close. In Bitches Brew, their separate solo exhibitions come together in one presentation, in which vulnerability and strength, chaos and beauty reinforce each other.
