Discover the story behind the breach
A striking breach in the façade of the Minorite Monastery tells a remarkable story. This is where Maastricht’s medieval city wall once stood. During restoration work, part of this centuries-old wall was uncovered once again. A small section of the medieval city that is still visible today.

The first stones of the monastery were laid around 1300. In the centuries that followed, the building changed function several times: from a monastery and orphanage to a military hospital. Since 1881, it has been home to the Limburg Historical Centre.

During this special guided tour, you’ll discover the stories behind the building and the traces left by the various periods in its history. You’ll visit the former monastery church, which now serves as the archive’s reading room, and gain an insight into the history of this special place.
