Lumière Maastricht is celebrating 50 years as a cinema with a festive anniversary year full of special films, events and activities.

In October 1976, the Filmhuis Maastricht Foundation launched a venue for films and stories that went beyond mere entertainment. Fifty years on, Lumière has grown to become Maastricht’s premier cinema. This special anniversary will be celebrated throughout the year with a programme packed with films, events and special activities.
Based in the former power station at ’t Bassin, Lumière has for years been a venue for films that move, surprise and provoke thought. From independent productions and new filmmakers to exceptional classics: cinema takes centre stage.
During the anniversary year, we’re pulling out all the stops. Alongside the regular film programme, there will be special events, including the big party during Museum Night and the open-air film festival in the summer. 50 years of Lumière is a tribute to film, stories, socialising and enjoying cinema together.
