ROOM 13: Stefanie Neuhaus
UNTIL 31 July
Photographer Stefanie Neuhaus explores masculinity, vulnerability and gender roles in he/his striking series of staged portraits.
A different look at masculinity
Why do we see so little male nudity in art and photography? And why is it often depicted in the same way? With he/his Stefanie Neuhaus seeks new ways of portraying men, beyond clichés and stereotypical images of masculinity.
Vulnerable, clerical and personal
Using colour, texture and carefully chosen settings, Neuhaus creates portraits that focus on vulnerability and individuality. The men portrayed come from diverse worlds: from farmers to top executives, young and old. Virtually none of them had been in front of a camera before, which gives the images an authentic and personal feel.
About the exhibition
The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on gender roles and the way masculinity is portrayed. The combination of photography, scenography and an experimental visual language creates a multifaceted and surprising perspective on a subject often taken for granted.
