The Apostelhoeve, one of Limburg's most beautiful spots on top of the Louwberg, is home to Limburg's oldest and one of the largest wine estates in the Netherlands. The Apostelhoeve wine estate currently comprises 20 hectares, where seven different grape varieties are planted: Müller-Thurgau, Auxerrois, Riesling, Pinot Gris and, since 2020, Viognier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Currently, these grape varieties produce seven beautiful, dry, white wines: the Müller-Thurgau, Auxerrois, Apostelhoeve Cuvée XII, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Gris Barriques and Viognier. In addition, Apostelhoeve also makes two beautiful sparkling wines: the Riesling Brut and the Apostelhoeve Cuvée XII Brut.

The Dutch wine tradition has its origins in Roman times; after the Middle Ages, the Dutch wine tradition gave way to other forms of agricultural activity. In 1970, the first vines returned to the southern slopes of the Jekerdal, at the Apostelhoeve, after fruit grower Hugo Hulst decided to plant a vineyard. The first harvest in 1973 produced 1,400 bottles of wine. Today, the Apostelhoeve produces more than 180,000 bottles of wine every year. The soil of the Louwberg consists of gravel and marl with a loess layer on top, which is extremely suitable for growing grapes.

Guided tour and wine tasting
The heart of Dutch viticulture beats in the Mergelland region and in particular at the Apostelhoeve, the oldest winery in the Netherlands. If you want to get acquainted with viticulture close to home, the Apostelhoeve offers the opportunity for a guided tour under expert guidance. During this guided tour you will visit the vineyard, the press house and the wine cellars, among other places, after which you will have a wine tasting of the Apostelhoeve wines in one of the cosy tasting rooms.

During the tasting there will also be the opportunity to judge the wines together. Naturally, there will be the opportunity to ask all your questions about the Apostelhoeve. Rye bread with ham/cheese will be served during the wine tasting.
