Netherlands American Cemetery

The American Cemetery in Margraten is the only American military cemetery in the Netherlands. More than 8,000 US soldiers who lost their lives during World War II rest here. In addition, 1,722 missing soldiers are commemorated on the impressive Walls of the Missing. Most soldiers died during the liberation of the southern Netherlands and the subsequent advance towards Germany.

The cemetery stands out from afar thanks to its 30-metre-high memorial tower. The site has been given on perpetual loan by the Netherlands to the United States.

Maintenance and management are in the hands of the American Battle Monuments Commission, the organisation responsible for several American military cemeteries and monuments worldwide. Every day, a dedicated team works to carefully maintain the cemetery and keep the memory of the fallen alive.

Visitors can take part in various guided tours and activities. There are open tours for which advance registration is not necessary, as well as group tours that can be booked for ten people or more. The open tours usually start on Saturdays and Sundays at 11.00 a.m. and often on additional days during holiday periods. The starting point is at the stairs in front of the visitor centre.

A visit to the visitor centre is a valuable addition to the experience. Here you will find information on the history of the cemetery, independent audio tours and special activities for children and families, including an activity booklet.

Opening hours
The cemetery and visitor centre are open daily from 09:00 to 17:00. Only on Christmas Day and New Year's Day are both closed. Last admission to the cemetery is at 4.45pm.

Admission to both the cemetery and the visitor centre is free.

Accessibility
The cemetery is accessible to visitors with disabilities. A wheelchair is available to borrow. Dogs are not allowed on the grounds. Access is via the entrance on the National Road.
