Suspension footbridge Passerelle de Caestert
The Passerelle van Caestert is an impressive hiking suspension bridge above the Albert Canal, overlooking marl walls and the surrounding landscape.
An unusual crossing
The Passerelle van Caestert is a long suspension bridge that spans the Albert Canal at the Caestert Plateau. At about 200 metres long and some 50 metres above the water, the crossing is an experience in itself. While walking, you have a wide view over the canal and the characteristic marl walls.
In the heart of the marl landscape
The bridge is located just outside Kanne. It connects two sides of the Albert Canal in an area known for its special subsoil and landscape. The area is characterised by steep marl walls and rolling countryside.
A new hiking experience
The Passerelle van Caestert opened in April 2026 and is part of a new hiking concept in the region. The bridge is exclusively accessible to hikers and forms a striking part of the local hiking offer.
How to visit the bridge
One way to reach the bridge is via a longer walking route of about 17 kilometres starting from Vroenhoven. There are also several starting points in the vicinity of Kanne and Riemst for walks towards the Plateau van Caestert.
Hiking in the area
The bridge combines well with walks through the marl landscape of Riemst. Along the way, you will pass impressive views, nature reserves and typical landscape elements that make this region so special.
