The Meuse
Watching the Meuse from the various bridges in Maastricht is already a special experience in itself, but a boat trip is also possible.

The city is named after it, so you can imagine that this river is an important part of the city. The Meuse rises in France and then flows through Belgium and the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, the Meuse is the southernmost of the major rivers and flows into the North Sea in the Dutch river delta.
There is a lot to do around the Meuse. Viewing the Meuse from the various bridges in Maastricht is a special experience in itself. For example, you walk across the historic Sint Servaas bridge from the city centre to Wyck. Along the quay - and towards Céramique - you already have a view of Maastricht's newest bridge: the Hoge Brug. This is the only bridge in Maastricht that is always and only accessible to cyclists and pedestrians.
Fancy a picnic by the Meuse? Then find a nice spot on De Griend, located between the Wilhelmina Bridge and the Sint Sint Servaasbrug bridge. Here you will find lawns, a sports area and plenty of space for walking, running or skating. Overlooking the river Meuse (Meuse) and the creative Landbouwbelang, you will enjoy a special spot in Maastricht.
Maastricht also has a romantic little harbour: 't Bassin. It is home to several restaurants and the new cinema: Lumière. You can enjoy culinary delights here or moor yourself with a small sloop.
Want to experience the Meuse at its best? Then book one of the beautiful boat trips at Rederij Stiphout. For example, you can sail up and down to Liège on Sunday mornings. In this Walloon city just across the border, you can visit the famous Sunday market 'La Batte'. The trip offers you fantastic views of the Meuse and all the villages and quays you sail past.
