Experience what it was like to take shelter in Maastricht's air-raid shelters in times of need. Schuilen in Maastricht, is a permanent exhibition set up in one of the galleries in the Kazematten.

The exhibition lets you travel back to the time of World War II and the Cold War. The volunteers will be happy to tell you more about what went on during these wars in the air-raid shelters that were used by many thousands of civilians during the Second World War when the air alarm went off. But also during the Cold War, shelters were again set up here for several hundred people. Fortunately, the shelters were abolished around 1990.

Did you know that the bomb shelter museum is hidden under a residential area in Minister Goeman Borgesiusplantsoen? Unique, isn't it? An iron fence runs around the park and an iron gate forms the entrance downstairs. During World War II, people also fled down to the shelter via self-drilled holes in their cellars.
