The Waalse Kerk in Maastricht, with its rich history, impressive monumental architectural style and central location in the urban fabric, is a striking example of cultural heritage. Originally founded in 1732 by Huguenots from France, it became the city's first Protestant church. Over the centuries, the church went through several transformations, but always remained a place of refuge and meeting for both local residents and international communities.

Hidden cellars and tombstones have recently been discovered, adding a new dimension to the church's rich past. The renovation plans, prompted by the vision of the current users, aim to revitalise the building without losing its historical essence. The motto 'receive, embrace, revitalise' reflects the soul of the church, which is now being reinterpreted to continue meeting the future needs of the community.

Phase 1 of the renovation, which includes the restoration of the consistory, the side entrance on Tafelstraat and the new construction of the rear annex, has now been completed and delivered. This transformation makes the Walloon Church not only a dynamic space, but also an inclusive and lively meeting place for a new generation of visitors.
