Visit the Derlon Museum Cellar
T / m 27 December
The Museumkelder Derlon is a small archaeological museum surrounding an important excavation, a national monument, from the Roman period.
About 6 metres below the current street level, a pre-Roman road, remains of a Roman sanctuary and parts of a late Roman castellum were excavated in the 1980s. You can see, among other things, a paved road, a well, a walled flowerbed with part of the base of the originally about 9-metre-high Jupiter pillar with a statue of the god Jupiter. Roman finds, including building fragments, pottery, glassware and metal objects, are on display in showcases.
Every Sunday, a guide from Explore Maastricht is present to enrich your visit with information. Exhibition is free to visit between 12.00 and 16.00.
