The caves North form the backdrop of an underground museum. With a lamp in hand, the group walks with a Maastricht Underground guide through the dark corridors past the most unusual inscriptions, drawings and paintings. The guide tells accompanying exciting and often humorous stories. In addition, the State Depository No. 9, better known as the Kluis hidden in this system of corridors, is visited.

This concrete bunker was built at the beginning of World War II and set up to secure the Netherlands' most important art treasures from air raids. Some 800 art treasures including Rembrandt's Night Watch, Potter's Bull and Vermeer's Street were stored here for three years. The subterranean marl corridors had a chilly and humid climate. An ingenious climate installation ensured that these fragile canvases lived unharmed. The attendants' room and the room for the military police, who had to guard the Vault and the access tunnel, are also viewed.

Finally, a look at the technical room where the climate of the Vault was regulated. The guide tells special anecdotes of both the occupier and the resistance. In short, a tour of a unique heritage consisting of a mix of history, culture and art.
