Apart from the ENCI quarry, Mount Saint Peter (St. Pietersberg hill) has a number of smaller quarries. One of these is Groeve De Schark.
De Schark: Discover the Story of Christmas 1944 Step back in time and experience the unique history of Groeve De Schark. Under Mount Saint Peter (St. Pietersberg hill), in this special underground quarry, a Christmas Eve service was held for US soldiers in 1944. Their signatures on the walls still remind us of this special moment.
On a walk with the forest ranger through the ENCI quarry, you will visit this historic site. The guides of SHAK 1944 bring the story of this Christmas celebration to life and keep this precious heritage alive. Moreover, you will learn more about the bat paradise the quarry is home to and enjoy the serene beauty of the surroundings.
