STAIRCASE
UNTIL 23 December
The stairwell at SCHUNCK serves as an exhibition space filled with photography, textiles and visual art. A connection to Heerlen, architecture and personal relationships forms the common thread.
Art in the stairwell
For STAIRCASE, artist Romy Finke created new work that is being presented specifically in and around the stairwell of SCHUNCK. Her so-called ‘Viewfinders’ offer a different perspective on the city, the building and the art collection.
Connected to Heerlen
Romy Finke has lived and worked in Heerlen for many years. The Glaspaleis also plays an important role in her life and work: her grandfather and mother worked there, and she later had a studio there herself. Furthermore, her work has been part of SCHUNCK’s municipal collection since 1998.
Alongside other artists
In addition to works by Romy Finke, the exhibition also features works by Francy Finke, Petra Finke, Nonzuzo Gxekwa, Nieke Lemmens and Karin Peulen. Romy invited these artists because of their personal and professional ties to her. Thus, connection is central not only to the work itself, but also to the composition of the exhibition.
