Angela de Vrede
Angela de Vrede (1949–2022) was a renowned Maastricht-based illustrator. In 1969, upon graduating from the Stadsacademie, she was awarded the Henriëtte Hustinx Prize.

Nature as inspiration
Angela had a special love for natureand the landscape of South Limburg. With a dreamy, humorous and sometimes surrealistic perspective, she brought insects, flowers, animals and trees to life. Her work has appeared in publications by Het Limburgs Landschap and Natuurmonumenten, amongst others, and is also on display at the Maastricht Natural History Museum.

Illustrations with a story
Angela also created colourful illustrations for *De Volkskrant* for many years to accompany articles on science, literature and culture. With a single image, she managed to capture the essence of a story in a clear and surprising way. She also illustrated various children’s and young adult books, including some she created in collaboration with Midas Dekkers.

On display at the exhibition
