Over the next few years, Rijkswaterstaat will be working on widening the A2 between the Het Vonderen and Kerensheide interchanges (between Echt-Susteren and Sittard-Geleen). These large-scale works will start from 18 August 2025 and last until the end of 2029. The work may cause significant traffic disruption in the Central and South Limburg regions.
What will change on the A2?
- A speed limit of 90 km/h applies until the end of the works. Traffic will remain possible over 2x3 lanes, but traffic flow will decrease. Especially during morning and evening rush hours.
- Several weekend closures are planned, during which the A2 will be completely closed. This will lead to significant traffic disruption and diversions. The first weekend closure is planned from 14 to 17 November this autumn. The reserve weekend is 21 to 24 November (planning subject to change).
- The widening of the A2 also requires closures on parts of the route and roads around the A2, which may cause diversions and extra travel time.
