SCHUNCK Museum, HeerlenIn its brand-new Atrium exhibition space, SCHUNCK is presenting Shuttlecock (1990), an impressive moving sculpture by Swiss artist Jean Tinguely (1925-1991).

The sculpture 'Shuttlecock' can be seen as a 'frozen explosion', consisting of parts of a race car, which squeaks and creaks as it is set in motion. Jean Tinguely is internationally known for his moving and self-destructive machines that produce a spectacle of movement and sound. The artist was fascinated by purposeless movement and manic speed, and thus also by the race circuit.
Tinguely designed sidecars and racing suits for his friend and racing driver René Progin for three years - from 1988 until his death in 1991. The sidecar from 1988 was dismantled to create the famous sculpture 'Shuttlecock'.
