The first retrospective of one of the leading conceptual photographers of our time
With life-size photographs, Syrian-Armenian artist Hrair Sarkissian exposes the wounds of conflict in the Bonnefanten. The Other Side of Silence features key works from the past 15 years of his career and new commissions such as Sweet and Sour, one of his most personal works to date. With his conceptual photography, Sarkissian explores the diverse ways in which controversial histories are told and disseminated. Audiences are taken on an extended journey across public squares in Aleppo, Latakia and Damascus, through the skies above Palmyra and across the snowy post-industrial landscapes of contemporary Armenia.
