On 13 September 1944, Maastricht was liberated as the first large city in the Netherlands. It would take another six months before the whole of the Netherlands would be freed from the German occupation. During this period, hope and fear for both the inhabitants of Maastricht and the allied soldiers in the city fluctuated constantly.

De Vief Köp Foundation will be performing LIBERATION: a characteristic all-encompassing spectacle in which actors reading diary passages will alternate with music played by symphony orchestra ArkA, more than a hundred extras, a children's choir, historical vehicles, etc. The performance will feature Eric Jaspers, Jos van Herpen, Marie-Louise Mientjes, Onno Hoes, Maastricht Athletics Club, Jelke Schijlen and many others. Put on your dancing shoes!

Arrival liberation flame

After the Liberation performance (about 10:15 p.m.), runners from Maastricht Athletics Club will arrive at the liberation monument with the liberation flame from Normandy. After an eight-day journey, they will ignite the monument flame to mark the moment at which Maastricht was liberated 75 years ago.

Liberation ball

Once the liberation flame is ignited, we will be celebrating freedom! Together with the actors from the performance, the public will be invited onto the dance floor surrounding the Limburg liberation monument. The music will be provided by the orchestra that accompanied the open-air performance.
