Centre Céramique presents: three partial exhibitions about Japan spread over different floors. The exhibitions include Maastricht ceramics inspired by Japanese motifs, Japanese prints, and photos of Japanese geishas taken by the Maastricht photographer Paul van der Veer. You can also find photos of 18th-century gold leather wallpaper which drew inspiration from the Far East. The original wallpaper can be found in the Mayor of Maastricht's chamber. This exhibition will take you back in time to the 'Japonisme' period. You will also be confronted with contemporary Japan thanks to photos of geishas – Japanese cultural icons.
