At the spot where the Old Hickory monument now stands, American soldiers crossed the River Meuse by boat 75 years ago to liberate the western part of the city. Following the arrival of the liberation flame, a wreath will be laid.

After the wreath-laying at the Old Hickory monument, the liberation flame will be transported by sloop from the eastern to the western banks of the Meuse, accompanied by water scouts. Arriving at the other side, runners from Maastricht Athletics Club will carry the flame to the head of the Sint Servaasbrug bridge, where it will become part of a ticker-tape parade.
