Southampton University Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta, and Symphonic Wind Orchestra promise an evening filled with classical masterpieces.

The Sinfonietta, Symphony Orchestra, and Symphonic Wind Orchestra of Southampton University are the three premier classical music ensembles of the University of Southampton in southern England.

The Orchestras

The Sinfonietta (Sinf) is a chamber orchestra that primarily plays music from the Classical era, with recently performed works by composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, and Brahms. Sinf was founded in 1997 and has since collaborated with many professional conductors, including Alex Hanks and Benjamin Oliver.

The Symphony Orchestra (SUSO) focuses on late Romantic and modern orchestral music, often performing works by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Mahler. SUSO is one of the oldest societies at the university, founded in 1919. Since its inception, they have regularly performed to sold-out audiences at an extremely high standard.

The Symphonic Wind Orchestra (SUSWO) plays modern original compositions by composers such as Holst and Hazo, as well as orchestral reductions of famous pieces by composers such as Rossini and Berlioz. They are the most in-demand wind orchestra at the university and have collaborated with conductors Kenneth Leung and Jamie Wall, as well as esteemed soloist Owyn Haylings.
