Expo: Ten masterpieces on tour

The Ten masterpieces on tour: Acquired for the Netherland with the support of the BankGiro Loterij exhibition presents artworks from the masters including Rembrandt, Appel, Steen, Monet, and Picasso. All ten pieces are important works acquisitioned between 1999 and 2016 with the support from the participants of the BankGiro Loterij lottery and other private individuals, companies, and public funds. This is a tour that presents beautiful examples of some of the most valuable art purchases in the Netherlands that have been made possible with this financial support.

This is a pop-up exhibition and the pieces are travelling to six different museums throughout the Netherlands where they will be on display for three weeks. The tour ends in March 2018 at the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht.

Here, visitors can explore an eclectic mix of artworks. For example, the selection contains seventeenth-century paintings such as the iconic Adolf and Catharina Croeser, known as The Burgomaster of Delft and his Daughter by Jan Steen from the Rijksmuseum. From the Mauritshuis collection, there are pieces such as Bentheim Castle by Jacob van Ruisdael,, and Portrait of an Elderly Man by Rembrandt. But the exhibition also contains later masterpieces such as Monet's Windmills near Zaandam from the Van Gogh Museum, Picasso's sculpture Petite chouette from the Kröller-Müller Museum, and The Square Man by Karel Appel from the Rijksmuseum.
